Started the year with a bang when winning over course and distance here last month, in what was just his second start over fences. Seems to prefer races that require more stamina, which will be a test tomorrow given the likely slow ground conditions. Has been given a 6lb penalty as a result of that victory, but his mount is claiming 7lbs (like last time) which may mean the penalty is not enough to stop him going back to back here.
AL SHABAB – 15:43 Lingfield – 5/2*
A rare shorter price selection, and rarer still with this one already being the favourite. Ran well last time out which was just five days ago over course of distance when 2nd of six. His sole career win so far also came over course and distance, and I think the only reason he isn’t much closer to being odds on is his strike rate of 1 win from 31 starts (18 on the all-weather). But there is plenty to suggest tomorrow could well be his day again.
