HALF TRACK – Carlisle 12:40 15/2*
The veteran of the field here, who was well backed in his last run out which was also at Carlisle, going off at 9/2 before unseating his mount during the race. This season’s form has been uninspiring so far to say the least, but dropping back down into Class 5 company at what would appear a handy mark would suggest he is good value as one of the outsiders in the field at the time of writing.
FOSTERED PHIL – Carlisle 14:13 8/1*
Another veteran for my second value pick, this 11-year-old has already won this season and has been in consistent form throughout, including competitive runs in Class 4 company. Back down to Class 5 here, in which he won that race at Perth in September when 12/1. In what looks a fairly poor field, and a handy mark here, if he can continue the form he has shown of late then he will be right amongst things at the sharper end of the field. Danny McMenamin on board is another plus, striking at 25% over the past 14 days. Current odds look attractive.
