SAGE GREEN – 15:35 Warwick – 8/1* EW 4pl
Decent first appearance of the year when 2nd of 10 at Kempton when 14/1, though was some 12 lengths behind the eventual winner. First run since wind surgery and first time application of a tongue strap seem to have made a positive difference. His sole career success under rules came over course and distance 11 months ago and also tends to go well on slower ground – all encouraging signs.
LARGY POET – 15:45 Exeter – 11/2* EW 3pl
Sole win over fences came around here this time last year and was also on heavy ground, ran well enough to finish 2nd last time out when joint favourite but was well beaten. First time blinkers being applied here and is a step up in trip, but that can be said for all of the field. A race that is likely to test stamina and this horse has ran well both on slow ground and in races with a distance greater than 3 miles. Looks an open race on paper but enough to suggest his chances are as good as any.
ALMATY STAR – 20:00 Southwell – 5/1* EW 3pl
An extremely open race, what draws one to this runner however is the consistency on the all-weather. Rarely outclassed on this surface in class 4 company but is yet to win at this course, but is no stranger to a podium finish around here. Plenty to suggest this is his time to break his duck around Southwell, but shouts can be made for most in this race.
