Horses to Watch – 21/09/25

DRAGON ICON – 15:07 Southwell @ 11/2*

Despite being winless for over two years now, recent form is encouraging, especially last time out at Kempton in a Class 2 in which he finished 3rd of 14 at 9/1. Both wins in his career have come on the All-Weather, including one at 1m. Off the same mark as that run at Kempton, and dropping back into Class 4 company here, if he can find a run similar to that he will be well within the mix. With as many as 4 places available on the market, an EW play here is probably the way to go.

CANONS HOUSE – 16:07 Southwell @ 9/1*

With 3 wins at 5f (4 wins total) already under his belt, and all 3 coming within the past few months the form read here is certainly one of promise. A career-best performance last time out to win a Class 2 at this very track suggest this gelding may be open to even more improvement. Make no mistake about it, though, another career best will be needed here. Up 4lbs on his victory three weeks ago, but clearly has no issue getting the job done over course & distance. In-form Billy Garritty takes the saddle here, with a respectable 14-day strike rate of 17%. Up to 5 places available with selected bookies, so again an EW play here appears the smart choice.

ANCIENT TIMES – 16:37 Southwell @ 9/1*

This 7-year-old gelding has seen a resurrection in form this season, with two wins and two second places to his name. No stranger to winning at both 5f & 6f, as well as being a previous winner here, maybe a slight concern that only one of his career wins have come on the AW, but with in-form jockey and trainer partnership of Tom Marquand (18% SR last 14 days) and Harry Eustace (13% SR last 14 days) and the recent rediscovered form of this horse put him into contention again. 4 places widely available, EW again is the play.
