CRYSTAL PIER – 13:45 Epsom Downs @ 11/2*
A Nursery Handicap debut for this 2-year-old filly, who has two places to her name from her first three race starts, including a very respectable 3rd of 8 last time out over course and distance. Potentially well treated by the handicapper, with 2lbs in hand over the hot favourite Galileo Island, who has shown plenty of progression in recent form. Top class jockey on board in Rossa Ryan for Ralph Beckett, and with three places available in this seven runner field, each-way claims here at the very least.
JIFFS ARMY – 16:40 Epsom Downs @ 3/1*
The only course and distance winner in this small-runner field, with two C&D wins in his last three runs, he clearly likes it here and should go well again. Those two wins have come since the switch to cheekpieces five races ago, a move that has worked out well so far and hopefully will again here. Rossa Ryan on board (15% strike rate last 14 days) for trainer Stuart Williams, who is striking at a very handsome 22% over the past two weeks. Only up 3lbs from his last win here seems a little generous, and with a small but tight field here there is enough to suggest this gelding should be shorter than his current market price.
FIFTY SENT – 15:40 Ffos Las @ 13/2*
Very impressive victory last time out over course and distance when turning over the odds-on favourite to win by more than two lengths at 8/1. His form in general reads consistently competitive, and despite this race appearing tougher than the competition he faced last time out, he looks well treated in the weights, helped by the 5lb claiming jockey on board. If he can maintain the form shown of late he will be in the mix once again, therefore each-way claims here at what currently appears a very attractive market price.
